Denver, CO – On December 5, AvalonBay Communities celebrated the grand opening of Avalon Governor’s Park, the company’s newest community in Denver and ninth community within its Colorado portfolio.
Avalon Governor’s Park offers 304 thoughtfully designed apartment homes, including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units. With a focus on quality and convenience, the building features exceptional amenities, such as a state-of-the-art fitness center, private workout studios with views of the pool deck, a WAG Pet Spa, a spacious bike room, and multiple indoor and outdoor lounge spaces designed for entertaining and relaxation. Located just steps from Governor’s Park in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, the 13-story community is well positioned within a vibrant, walkable neighborhood with easy access to Speer Boulevard, I-25, and Route 70.
“This is a big milestone for AvalonBay Communities and the neighborhood. A development of this scale was many years in the making, beginning five years ago and involving a tremendous amount of effort from a variety of public and private stakeholders, including designers, engineers, construction professionals, neighbors, and leaders in our city and state agencies,” said Todd Nicotra, VP of Development at AvalonBay Communities. “AvalonBay is a long-term owner with a desire to be an active member of the communities in which we build and operate. Forming this partnership with the Denver Public Schools Foundation is a great way to carry out our purpose of creating a better way to live.”
The grand opening event brought together key community members, including real estate partners and leaders, elected officials, and local educators, as they gathered for breakfast, tours of the new community, and an announcement about AvalonBay’s new partnership with the Denver Public Schools Foundation. This partnership highlights the impact creative philanthropy can have by providing educators with a valuable resource that will allow them to focus more on their work with students.
The partnership provides five deserving Denver teachers with rent-free housing for a year in the new downtown apartment building. The five rent-free apartments represent another step toward the Foundation’s goal of providing free housing to 150 district educators by the start of the 2025-26 school year. Approximately 140 teachers applied for one of the five rent-free apartments at Avalon Governor’s Park, and winners were randomly selected from that group.
“It is exciting and inspiring to see the momentum of this generous philanthropy, and we hope this example will continue to inspire others to explore unique solutions for supporting our public schools, educators, and students,” said Sara Hazel, President and CEO of the Denver Public Schools Foundation.
“I would be not here today if not for the teachers who [taught] me how to be a human, how to be a young adult… so I owe much of who I am today to teachers. Thank you so much to AvalonBay for providing an opportunity for teachers to survive and thrive right here in our center city,” said Denver City Councilman Chris Hinds.
